Engine Testing - The testing is done on a stationary dynamo that is similar to a treadmill. The engine is moved onto the dynamo and then the engineer opens the throttle and the wheels turn against the rollers beneath it. The forward or backward movement of the locomotive is barely a fraction of an inch while the engine can be running at full speed.
